Starz Team Announced

The team to play at the 2018 Gilley’s Shield was finalised this week after the final pieces of the puzzle were put in place.

There is some terrific talent in this line up including the four players from the current Aussie Spirit squad in Cameron, Lambert, Robinson and White.

Trzcinski will make a welcome return to the Starz after a season off, she is currently finishing her degree at the University of California.

There is an international flavour with the addition of American/Port Adelaide outfielder Vicky McFarland who is turning heads at every game she plays. Jailyn Ford will add depth to the pitching stocks. Both players have terrific experience to bring to the Starz including 4 impressive years at their US Colleges, Ford has also played for US Pro League Team Akron Racers, Japanese Pro League Team Honda and she has also represented the USA national team.

The SA local talent takes us from Mount Gambier to Sunraysia with the likes of Hood and Hoyle and each of the seven Adelaide Competition A Grade teams is represented.

Coach Johanson was asked about his thoughts on the team and he said

“I’m very optimistic about the potential that this group of players bring to the Starz. One observation is their determination and focus on skill sets has increased and this pleases me. When athletes take ownership of their efforts in a training environment it is usually a good sign.”

The Gilley’s Shield will be played at Mirrabooka, WA from January 6 – 12, 2018
